Riverside Veterinary Hospital, Clinic

We perform nose-to-tail physical examinations tailored for every pet, assessing gait, posture, behavior, and organ function. Our exams include abdominal palpation, heart/lungs auscultation, and ear/eye evaluations. Subtle signs of illness are detected before they become overt. Our team also reviews comprehensive medical history and lifestyle habits.

We provide structured wellness packages, recommending visits at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age. Our core services include comprehensive exams, core/vaccines, fecal testing, and parasite prevention counseling. Our team supports NYS *Pet Lemon Law* compliance for adopted rescues, ensuring early health certification.

We recommend semi-annual wellness visits for senior pets with in-depth physical exams, including thorough histiries. Senior labwork—CBC, chemistry panels, urinalysis, thyroid checks, and blood pressure measurement—is performed routinely. We prioritize early detection of age-related diseases like kidney, heart, or diabetes while offering dietary and lifestyle guidelines tailored for elder pets.

We follow national AVMA guidelines for core vaccines, including rabies (required by NY State Law), distemper (DHLPP: adenovirus, parainfluenza, parvovirus), and feline rhinotracheitis-calicivirus-panleukopenia. Puppies/kittens receive a series of 3–4 vaccines, followed by booster protocols. Rabies is boosted every 3 years.

We offer annual heartworm testing and prevention programs (e.g., *Interceptor Plus*) to protect against heartworm and intestinal parasites (tapeworms, whipworms, roundworms, hookworms). Prevention requires prior annual testing, and we provide prescription through our in-house pharmacy.

We offer flea/tick preventions like *Simparica Trio* and *Bravecto*, covering external parasites. Options are available in-house or through our pharmacy. *Simparica Trio* also includes heartworm prevention. Flea/tick treatments are critical for preventing secondary infections and zoonotic risks.

We implant Slim Microfindr microchips (Datamars) during wellness visits or surgeries. The procedure uses a single injection without anesthesia or surgery. Critical: registration is provided at implant, and you must update contact info promptly. Lost pets microchipped/registered are 2+ times (dogs) or 20× (cats) more likely to return home.

We provide personalized nutrition plans for wellness or managing chronic conditions like diabetes, joint issues, or skin problems. Owners complete a Nutrition Questionnaire, and we recommend prescription/over-the-counter diets, home-cooking guidance, or weight-management programs. Annual reviews ensure dietary needs align with age/activity levels.

While focused services aren't detailed, we address behavioral issues linked to nutrition, spay/neuter, or wellness exams. Post-surgery, we note reduced roaming/aggression in males and elimination of heat-cycle behaviors in females. We can discuss behavioral concerns during wellness or sick visits.

Our lab performs CBCs and comprehensive chemistry panels in-house for pre-surgery, wellness, and diagnostic workups. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork tailors protocols, while wellness panels include thyroid levels (cats) and metabolic screens critical for senior care.

Included in our senior wellness panels, we perform urinalysis annually or as needed to detect urinary infections, diabetes, liver/kidney dysfunction, or stones. Early abnormalities help guide treatment or lifestyle adjustments, improving outcome for chronic issues.

We conduct fecal samples and lab-based microscopic egg detection for intestinal parasites (roundworms, whipworms, hookworms). Yearly testing is recommended, especially for pets exhibiting itchy hind ends, weight loss, or gastrointestinal signs. Zoonotic risks are assessed, and CDC/vet guidance is provided.

We offer same-day spay (ovariohysterectomy) and neuter (castration) surgeries, with general anesthesia and dedicated surgical suites. Pre-procedure labs assess anesthesia safety. Post-op care includes pain management, recovery instructions, and restrictions (e.g., cage rest). Surgery prevents cancers (uterine infections/breast cancer) and reduces undesired behaviors.

We provide IV catheterization and fluid therapy routine to all surgical and complex care patients. Fluids ensure circulatory support, prevent dehydration, and aid recovery. Critical for anesthetized pets, IV access enables rapid administration of fluids/medications during unexpected emergencies.

We prioritize preventive, intraoperative, and postoperative pain management for surgical patients using injectable and inhalant analgesics. Tailored protocols are developed post-surgery, with at-home medication provided for recovery. Owners receive detailed instructions to monitor pain (e.g., lethargy, stiffness). Human OTC/prescription meds are hazardous—consult us before use.

We operate a bonded-by-energy daycare, with continuous adjustments to playgroups for safety/comfort. Bordetella vaccination is *required*; lepto/influenza are *recommended*. Our facilities offer extended drop-off/pickup (7 AM–8 PM) with flexible play schedules tailored for your pet’s needs.

We coordinate with Lap of Love (*585-563-*4460) for at-home euthanasia services. Our staff performs quality-of-life assessments and guides end-of-life decisions, emphasizing compassion. The process includes in-home IV euthanasia, ensuring a calm experience for your pet.
