Southgate Veterinary Hospital: Dr. Nick Machtell, Clinic

We provide thorough Comprehensive Physical Exams for pets of all ages, evaluating eyes, ears, teeth, skin, heart, lungs, and joint health. These exams help us detect early signs of illness and tailor care to your pet’s unique needs.

Our Puppy & Kitten Wellness Packages include complete physical exams, broad-spectrum deworming, core vaccinations (e.g., DAPP for puppies and Rhinotracheitis/Calicivirus/Panleukopenia for kittens), intestinal parasite screening, and the first dose of heartworm/flea/tick prevention. We also educate owners on spay/neuter, nutrition, and socialization.

We offer specialized Senior Pet Wellness Care, including biannual exams for pets aged 7+, bloodwork, urinalysis, and diagnostic imaging to monitor age-related conditions. Our goal is early detection and proactive management of chronic issues to maintain quality of life.

We administer Core Vaccinations, including rabies (required by law in Fargo-Moorhead), distemper, and parvovirus for dogs. For cats, we offer core vaccines like Rhinotracheitis/Calicivirus/Panleukopenia. Rabies vaccination is mandatory for all pets receiving services at our clinic.

We offer Heartworm Testing annually for dogs and cats, along with preventive medications to protect against this deadly parasite. Early detection and prevention are key to avoiding severe heart and lung damage.

Our clinic provides Flea & Tick Prevention treatments and counseling to safeguard your pet from parasites that can cause discomfort, allergies, or transmit diseases like Lyme. We recommend year-round prevention in our region.

During wellness exams, we offer Nutritional Counseling and Weight Management guidance to help your pet maintain a healthy diet and body condition. We provide personalized recommendations for food, portion control, and lifestyle adjustments.

We perform Parasite Deworming as part of our puppy/kitten packages and routine care. Fecal testing identifies intestinal parasites, which we treat with targeted deworming medications to ensure your pet’s digestive health.

Our In-House Bloodwork services include Complete Blood Counts (CBC) and chemistry panels to evaluate organ function, detect infections, or monitor chronic conditions. Results are available quickly during your visit for timely treatment decisions.

We provide Urinalysis to screen for urinary tract infections, kidney disease, diabetes, and other metabolic issues. This diagnostic tool is especially valuable for senior pets or those showing signs of illness like increased thirst or frequent urination.

Our clinic offers Fecal Testing to identify intestinal parasites (e.g., roundworms, hookworms) in puppies, kittens, and adult pets. Early detection ensures effective deworming and prevents zoonotic risks.

We use Digital X-Rays for diagnostic imaging to evaluate bones, organs, and internal structures. This service supports pre-surgical assessments, fracture diagnosis, dental X-rays, and monitoring of chronic conditions like heart or lung disease.

Our Ultrasound Imaging services help diagnose abdominal issues (e.g., organ abnormalities, tumors) and guide procedures like bladder stone removal. Ultrasounds provide real-time visualization without radiation exposure.

We monitor Blood Pressure as part of comprehensive exams, especially for senior pets or those with heart/kidney disease. Early detection of hypertension helps prevent organ damage and adjust treatment plans accordingly.

Our clinic performs EKG/ECG to assess heart rhythm, structure, and function. This is critical for diagnosing conditions like congestive heart failure or arrhythmias, particularly in senior pets or those with murmurs.

Our dental care includes Dental X-Rays to detect hidden issues like tooth root abscesses, fractures, or bone loss. These images guide treatment decisions during comprehensive oral health assessments (COHAT).

We perform Tooth Extractions for severely decayed, fractured, or diseased teeth to relieve pain and prevent infection. This is part of our full-mouth dental care under general anesthesia.

Our team treats Periodontal Disease through scaling, root planing, and antibiotic therapy when needed. We also provide at-home care education to slow progression and maintain oral health.

We educate pet owners on At-Home Dental Care, including brushing techniques, VOHC-approved dental products (toothpaste, chews), and dietary recommendations to complement professional cleanings.

Our clinic performs routine Spay & Neuter Surgery for dogs and cats, including pediatric spays/neuters. These procedures reduce health risks (e.g., cancers) and help control pet populations.

Our Foreign Body Removal services address ingested objects (e.g., toys, bones) or obstructions in the gastrointestinal tract. We use imaging and surgery to safely retrieve these items and restore your pet’s health.

We perform C-Sections for complicated deliveries, ensuring the safety of both mother and puppies/kittens. This service is available for emergency or elective cases requiring surgical intervention.

Our Bladder Stone Removal surgery addresses urinary obstruction or infection caused by stones. We use ultrasound guidance and post-operative care to manage this painful condition effectively.

We offer Hospitalization with 24-hour monitoring for pets requiring post-surgical recovery, chronic condition management, or emergency stabilization. Our team ensures continuous care in a comfortable setting.

Our clinic provides IV Fluid Therapy to treat dehydration, support anesthesia, or manage kidney/liver disease. Fluids are administered with precise monitoring to ensure your pet’s stability.

We offer comprehensive Pain Management, including pre- and post-surgical pain control, chronic condition management (e.g., arthritis), and personalized medication plans for comfort.

Our Medical Grooming services include sanitary shaves, nail trimming/dremeling, and anal gland expression performed by licensed veterinary technicians. These procedures promote hygiene and comfort.

We provide Sanitary Shave services to keep pets clean around sensitive areas (e.g., perineal regions) post-surgery or for medical reasons, reducing infection risks and improving mobility.

Our licensed veterinary technicians offer Nail Trimming & Dremeling appointments to prevent overgrowth, discomfort, or splitting. This service is available for established clients.

We perform Anal Gland Expression to relieve impacted glands in dogs, which can cause pain and scooting behavior. This procedure is done by trained technicians during LVT appointments.

We provide Quality of Life Assessments for senior or chronically ill pets to guide treatment decisions and ensure comfort. This holistic approach considers pain, mobility, and overall well-being.
